I CANNOT believe that Amelia is a year old! With every child it seems more and more that when their first birthday arrives, somehow they are still only about 6 months old. It really seems like all the drama and excitement of Amelia’s birth happened so recently. I can’t really get over the fact that my BABY is now a TODDLER! I tried to snuggle with her tonight at bedtime because I was feeling sentimental, but she laughed crawled away and played goofy games on the bed just to prove that she is not my snuggly little newborn any longer. (Although she did just wake up and demand that I rock her and feed her a bottle right at the time she was actually born- about 10:35 pm- so I guess maybe she isn’t ALL grown up yet).
Wow- I have such vivid memories of the intense pain, calling our friends Todd and Trina Chambers to come over, the realization that she was going to be born at home, Glenn’s level-headedness, the woman on the other end of the 911 call wanting to know the details of what was going on while I was in the middle of giving birth, the arrival of the nice woman sheriff, the arrival of all the other EMT’s, being carried downstairs on a stretcher and saying my goodbyes to Todd and Trina as I was carried out the door, holding Amelia in the ambulance while the sirens blared and we were whisked away, seeing Glenn standing there right as the doors to the ambulance opened at the hospital (how he managed to get there that fast, I have no idea)…. and then after all the chaos, there was the peace and stillness of holding my new little daughter in the dark hospital room in the middle of the night.
I guess she has grown up quite a bit since then. She is starting to walk and won’t sit still for a minute. She has a funny little personality and is very popular with her brothers. She makes me smile every day, and I am so glad she was born. I love that sweet girl of mine! Happy Birthday Amelia!!
