Orange Run

Last week Glenn’s parents came out for the time I look forward to all year- the Orange Run.  They live in the Central Valley of California where farmers grow (according to NPR) a quarter of the food America eats.  Every year Glenn’s parents fill their truck with boxes of oranges and make the drive to deliver them to those of us who live in a less fortunate climate.  They stop in Provo and then head on to Denver, and every year I look forward to seeing that truck pull up- it’s like Santa’s sleigh!

We had a great time with them!  I was too busy eating the juicy oranges to take many pictures (which I always regret after the fact).  I wish I had more documentation of our fun, but I guess I’ll just have to record it here.

Grandpa took Derek to get a new front door for our house (which we still have to finish and install, so no pictures yet).  He took the kids to the park to fly kites.  Both Grandma and Grandpa took the kids on walks, even out in the cold, snowy weather.  The boys love to go walking outside and I am just a huge wimp when it comes to the cold, so I don’t take them out very often.  They were pretty happy about being out and about!  Glenn’s parents were kind enough to let me record them for hours telling stories about our family history that I plan show our kids on Sunday afternoons.  Glenn’s mom helped me sew curtains for our bedroom.  You can see why we all love it when they come!

We celebrated Valentines Day together.  The door decorations were a lot fancier with Glenn’s mom here!  Glenn’s dad took the boys to Target to get me a present- new drinking glasses (inspired by all the cracked plastic cups we typically use)!

Our kids love their grandparents, and I think they’re pretty great, too!

Here is Amelia enjoying her orange. You can see her reaction when I tried to suggest that we should give it to someone who could actually eat it!

The boys have enjoyed more than just eating the oranges…

Now we’re slowly savoring our delicious oranges to make them last as long as we can until the much anticipated visit next year!
