Both a Blessing and a Curse

Our kids love to read, which is great until they want to do it all the time- particularly at bedtime.

Here are Amelia and Evan reading together this afternoon.  (I had to cover Amelia up a bit, because after all, this is the internet.  She loves to strip down to nothing but her fancy shoes.)  She apparently has learned the art of posing.  She saw me bring the camera over she and kept nudging Evan and saying, “Evan- smile!”

Amelia would NOT let go of her books tonight as I was putting her to bed.  Glenn has been out of town for a week and my bedtime patience is thin, so I just offered to stick a book in bed with her to pacify her.  I figured that since she doesn’t have any light in her room, she would quickly go to sleep.

AN HOUR later I went in to check on her.  Adam (her roommate) was fast asleep, but there was Amelia, sitting up in bed reading her book.  I’m sure she couldn’t see a thing (there isn’t even a night light in their room), but she squinted happily as I walked in and then she turned the page and went right back to reading.

It looks like the next generation of book lovers is alive and well in this household!

The Wild Wild West

I was meant to live in the wild.  At least, I think I was meant to live in the wild.  That fact is yet to be proven since my entire adult life I have lived in the middle of civilization.  Still,  I grew up in the wild and I pine away after the day when we can leave this cramped suburb behind and live on acres of land to explore.  Just this morning I was feeling frustrated about our unlikely prospects of moving any time soon.

This afternoon, however, we had a visitor that reminded me that even though our neighbors can look into our bathroom windows, we don’t have to be out on acres of land to enjoy a little bit of nature now and then!

Maybe we can survive another year or two…..or three….or four..…of the suburbs after all!Amelia 4
