Adam!

Adam lives life at the top of his lungs. As the third child, he often feels like he needs to shout to be noticed--especially when he says something and gets no response the first time ("Can I please have some more milk?" <pause> "CAN I PLEASE HAVE SOME MORE MILK!!?"). Adam is also a very enthusiastic pretender, and he loves to yell about who he is ("I'm Batman!!" "I'm a bad guy!!" "I'm a velociraptor!!” “I’m Jimmer!!”) and how he is getting attacked by pirates, monsters, lions, or whatever his latest fascination is. (These battles inevitably involve him getting tackled by his invisible opponent.)

Adam is also following in his older brothers' footsteps and throwing the occasionally terrible threes tantrum. He probably makes more visits to the "sorry bench" than anyone in the family, usually in tears and yelling at whoever has upset him (which, more often than not, is Evan). Fortunately, Adam is able to get himself under control pretty quickly, and after a hasty apology he will jump right back into enthusiastically playing where he left off.

Just the other night at about 2:00 am, Adam came in dramatically crying and angrily throwing himself on the floor because his blankets were all “blumped up.” It was pitiful enough for me to offer to leave my comfortable bed and go fix his covers. As soon as I said I would come and started wearily getting up, he cheerfully jumped up, smiled, and said, “Race Ya!” and then proceeded to run as fast as his little arms could pump back to his bedroom. The fact that he pulled such a funny stunt in the middle of the night is just so classic Adam.

None of our other kids come close to matching Adam’s enthusiasm. He is a marvel, that’s for sure.

Which is why we found it very fitting recently when Adam scraped his forehead and ended up looking like this:

Adam Exclamation Mark

Derek was the first one to notice that the scab was in the shape of an exclamation mark (!).

For a kid living his life at full volume, we can't think of a better symbol for Adam to be carrying around on his forehead. We love our little boy!!!
